ABFL sketch

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

After leafing through a number of Logo design books in Waterstones the other day, I found myself in Costa creating this sketch.

ABFL_wingedHeart_logo

I added my portfolio URL to the banner across the heart to give it some relevance to me personally. I also decide to try and digitise the image, adding colour along the way.

Now for whatever reason, I started this process in Photoshop rather than Illustrator. This being the case, I have not yet achieved the overall image that I had hoped for, but I had spent too long working in Photoshop to be bothered starting in Illustrator.

To be completed sometime soon – probably next weekend.

Back to blogging

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

Once again I have found myself getting too wrapped up in doing other things that have kept me from having the time to sit down here at my Mac and add to this blog.

As off tomorrow I shall be undertaking a role building templated websites for yell.com, which should hopefully allow me to slip back into my previous way thinking/working – we shall see.

It is still uncertain as to whether a creative career is going to be my future or whether I shall indeed join the MOD Police and follow in my Fathers’ policing footsteps. Having got as excited as I did about the prospect of the Yell position, I feel that even if I do become a police officer I shall have to continue with the freelance web design work as a method of keeping my interest alive and active.

Another christening

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

This weekend sees me in Campbeltown for a family christening.

Spending another sunday morning in church was made all the more bearable as I was sat with my dad who shares similar views about the church.

The Government!

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Over the last few days I have added a couple of UK government twitters to my list. Most of them offer up little info-bites of what is happening within number 10 and the FCO.

I have also found a blog written by someone who currently works as civil servant and is part of the Government Communications Network.

Having looked into this a little, it would appear that this is an area of the government that appeals as somewhere that I could happily find myself working – and being able to apply my degree too!

I’m keeping my eyes open for suitable positions and shall be applying for them where possible.

I have also realised that my portfolio site needs a re-vamp and so I aim to work on that this weekend :)

The week ahead

Monday, August 25th, 2008

This week sees me continuing my term at Jeppesen, much to Livi’s disappointment – she thought it was only for last week and that I was still going to take the Prolog job.

I have been looking into a few graduate entry jobs which I’ll be applying for when I get time to complete the relevent forms.

I also need to find time to finish the recently neglected Barbarossa website which has just a few adjustments needed to it.

All of this has to happen alongside a continued effort to get to the gym regularly as well as running and cycling on non-gym days.

We shall see how it goes!

Isaacs’ christening

Monday, August 25th, 2008

This weekend saw me travelling to Suffolk once again. This time the main event was the christening of Amie and Iestyns little boy Issac (I think that is the right spelling).

I must say that an hour and a half in church would have been too much if it hadn’t been for the little blonde lad that was running around doing as he pleased! So entertaining for someone that really doesn’t like being preached at in church!

Isaac handled the actual christening very well, especially ad he was asleep just before the priest poured water over his head! He looked so cute afterwards, wearing a look that said ” why did you just let that off man wake me up by pouring water on my head?”

There was a buffet and bouncy castle in the village hall afterwards and then a few bands were playing in the local pub so we headed there for that.

All in all it was a rather good day, the sun even managed to appear around 3pm which helped!

Working once again

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Well it finally happened!

Finally managed to get myself a job, albeit a temporary one for now. I’m glad really because the weekends weren’t as enjoyable when they were the same as every other day!

I’m now ammending flight manuals for Jeppesen which is pretty monotonous but interesting nonetheless.

I can’t wait to have money going into my bank account once again, making it easier to get on with life and do all the things that I’ve been unable to do for so long now.

The Barbarossa website is almost finished, just having a few issues with the javascript slideshow that I’m implementing – I’ve been too tired this week to concentrate enough to solve them though :(

Anyway I better head back to my desk now.

On the plus side, I have a nice view when I’m outside smoking:

Rainy saturday afternoon

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

It is not a nice day here in Thatcham, it’s rather wet and fairly gusty too.

Nevertheless I am not long back from an 8 mile ride around Greenham Common. I’m not sure if I have ever been this muddy after a bike ride, but I’m glad that I am!

I look forward to more rides like this, regardless of the weather conditions. I am also certain that my bike is I’m need of a mini service just to make sure it keeps on running smoothly.

A long way for a coffee

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

Today saw me heading to Sudbury by train to collect my little sister, Sara, and bring her back to Thatcham.

It did give me the chance to have a coffee from Costa, Nero and Starbucks :)

Leaving at half 6 meant I was in Sudbury by 10ish. It doesn’t sound like long but it did involve standing on platforms at Thatcham, Paddington, Liverpool Street, Marks Tey and Sudbury.

It turned out to be a gorgeous day by the time I was on Sudbury and it was nice to see the shift on scenery between London and Sudbury – with towerblocks and skyscrapers being replaced with rolling fields and rows of green trees.

I was rather surprised to find out that Sara’s one way ticket cost more then my return! Madness!

Now it really begins!

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I’ve finally finished my degree now, I got a 2:1 since you asked :)

Whilst this site has been neglected over the past year, I feel that now I will have the time to spend adding more ramblings here.

I am currently developing http://abreakfromlife.com (abfl), my portfolio site. A project that has re-awakened my passion for playing with code! At the moment I’m re-working the blog layout on abfl, working with WordPress and a number of writings from Elliot Jay Stocks (someone with talent that I am rapidly becoming very jealous of!).

The process of writing the CSS style sheet as well as a few bits of PHP is a brilliant experience once everything falls into place, and one is left in that moment of clarity!

Anyway, upon completing the abfl blog I hope to utilise WordPress as a CMS for the whole site – as long as I can work out how to use parent/child pages.
